The Mind-Body Connection Decoded

I’m sure you must’ve heard the term mind-body connection used more frequently in recent years. But what exactly is it?

Today, I’m going to decode it for you with a client story because I believe it’s easier to understand new concepts through stories and real-life evidence.

Before I share the story, let me give you some background –

I started with my physical well-being journey 20 years ago, at the age of 13. Since then I have discovered a lot about the human body and holistic well-being. When I started working as a Nutrition Coach in 2018, I realised that all the clients who came to me knew everything they had to do and what they had to eat to reach their fitness goals, but they were unable to take the action needed. The more conversations I had with clients, the more I realised that how someone eats, or their physical health, has very little to do with food, and it has everything to do with their relationship with themselves. If they had a disempowering relationship with themselves, it would trickle down into their relationship with their body and food.

This is why we call it “stress”-eating or “emotional”-eating. The cause is usually a mental or emotional state.

In simple terms – it all starts in your mind – your perception of life, limiting beliefs and your self-image. This intrigued me to go deeper into learning about the mind. What I learned blew my mind, and I knew immediately that I wanted to focus on creating mindset shifts for my clients so that they could experience greater freedom in their bodies and lives.

By creating Unconscious shifts at the mind level, I am able to help my clients change their emotional states and their behaviour to align with their vision. This helps them take effortless action towards their goals; It creates instant shifts in their reality; and it eventually leads to them manifesting a life of their dreams.

Everything you experience in your physical reality starts in the mind. This includes what you experience in your behaviour and your body.

In yoga, they say there is no difference between the mind and the body. They are the same.

This is true even from a neuroscience perspective. Your Unconscious mind IS THE BODY. The Unconscious is the part of your mind that controls your heartbeat, breathing and all other involuntary functions in your body including all your organs. It also holds your beliefs, long-term memories, habits, emotions and intuition. This is the part of you that can be conditioned.

Your BODY simply follows your MIND.

Let me give you an example from your own life – when you first learn something new – like driving a car – you have to be very present as you teach your body how to drive. After a year, you can drive the same car without even thinking. This means, your body has now been conditioned to drive on autopilot.

In my Private Coaching sessions I have had multiple cases where once we address the limits in the mind, the body automatically follows. For example: Allergic reactions have vanished, thyroid medication has decreased, periods have started coming regularly, gut issues have healed, vision has improved and so much more!

Today I am sharing with you the story of a client who came for Private Coaching in Feb 2022. I am sharing her story and WhatsApp messages so you can feel the power of the transformation as she says it in her own words.

When she came in, she:

  • Had persistent health issues that she had been battling since the age of 18.
  • Was binge eating.
  • Believed she had stubborn weight on her body.
  • Would procrastinate
  • Was unable to maintain a consistent daily routine.
  • Had thyroid issues and was on medication.
  • Had been diagnosed with fatty liver (the biggest one of all).

We started Coaching in March and by April her health parameters had improved. By April she also had a consistent daily routine, including mindfulness and movement.

We did a total of 18 sessions together, out of which we spoke about binge eating and her relationship with food in only 3 sessions. The rest of the sessions were dedicated to her beliefs and perceptions about herself and how they translated into her life.

We addressed her language, her self-talk and her fears.

By the end of our 18 sessions, in June 2022, she was speaking up at work, had a clear idea of what she wanted to do next in her life, was content in her surroundings and had manifested a large chunk of the dreams we discussed when she had come into Coaching.

Physically she had more energy, she was moving her body from a place of love and mindfulness, and the binge-eating had stopped. She felt confident in her skin and her ability to create and live a life that aligned with her vision.

Exactly 3 months after our last coaching session, in September 2022, she shared this message on the Holistic Daily community:

You can feel the power and magic in that statement: “For the first time in 4 years, my liver enzymes are within normal range.”

I was overjoyed when I read this message, but not surprised because this was inevitable! When I spoke to her later she said that her family was so happy too because no one was expecting it to happen so soon. The Doctors thought it would be a longer journey looking at the past trends!

Well, she broke all records! She created a new trend. She created a new reality!!

All the symptoms I shared above, from the health issues to the behaviours, were never about the physical body.

What was actually happening in her mind:

  • Fear of the unknown.
  • Feeling like a failure.
  • Not being able to voice her truth.
  • Limiting language patterns.
  • Self-doubt and low self-confidence.

All the physical symptoms were a manifestation of what was happening in her mind.

4 years of fatty liver vanished in 6 months! After spending years on doctors and medication, she finally didn’t have to anymore because she came into Coaching and we addressed the root causes in her mind.

Symptoms like allergies and rashes sometimes disappear in a couple of weeks. The duration varies depending on how deep the conditioning runs and for how long it has lived in the mind.

I’m sure you need no further proof of how powerful your mind is. Doesn’t this make the mind-body connection so clear?

I LOVE this work because I get to witness this magic on a daily basis. It expands my heart to see clients changing in less than 60 minutes during our sessions.
