If you’ve followed me long enough, you know I’m a big fan of rituals. A mug of Cacao every night is one of them.
No matter how my day has been this daily nightcap brings me joy. I look forward to it on a tiring day, or a day when I want to celebrate at night.
I get a lot of questions about how I make it. The thing is I love chocolate and cacao. It’s a superfood that doesn’t always come in the healthiest form. I wanted to retain a strong flavor of cacao, but decrease the calories by not adding that much milk. Hence, this recipe replaces the milk with water and uses only a splash of plant-based mylk to make it ever so slightly rich. The flavor is intense and unadulterated. Sheer sumptuousness. 🤤
Some of the many benefits of raw cacao are:
- It contains anandamide, a mood improver, and also helps balance hormonal mood swings.
- It helps combat fatigue with a high concentration of magnesium. The mineral helps protect against osteoporosis, and type II diabetes.
- It reduces cortisol (stress hormone) in the body, improves metabolism and also improves gut microbial activity.
Note: Make sure it’s RAW cacao powder and not the processed, alkalised kind for maximum benefits.
My deduction? A cup of cacao a day keeps the doctor away 😜
